Wheat Harvest

Hannah doesn't remember wheat harvest and contrary to this picture, she wasn't very interested this year either. After about 10 minutes in the field, she was whining and pointing to the house. Little city girl.

Wheat harvest came very early this year. The earliest anyone can remember in a very long time. Dad started cutting on Memorial Day, so we loaded up and went to "help." Mom had to work, so we made a little lunch for Grandpa to eat while he cut. Sondra picked up Papa Murphy's for the rest of us and I brought food and a salad. Less work and mess than a barbecue and just as tasty!

The kids hung out on the porch with Daddy and the swing on Memorial Day. So nice to have an extra day added to the weekend to spend with Daddy!

Last Thursday, Andrew had his last day of Kindergarten. This school year went by crazy fast and he has grown up so much! The last week of school, his teacher sent home this sweet memory book with pictures and highlights from the year. I scanned in a couple of pages to show here. So glad Andrew had such a great first year of school and such an amazing teacher!

18 months...or rather 19 months old

Umm yes, my hair is a mess, and I am Thing 3!

Since I missed updating Hannah's 18-month stats from last month, I'll just update now with 19-month photos. I can't believe that you are over half-way to being a 2-year old. I just don't know how this is happening so fast. And it doesn't help that you want to be big, so you deny being little at every turn! Your motto is, "If the boys are doing it, so can I. And if you don't let me, I'll throw a fit."

You still don't have a ton of words, but you communicate your wishes very clearly. You have started signing please and thank you without prompting. Especially when we are grocery shopping and I put something in the cart you like. The other day I put a bag of Tootie Frooties (generic Fruit Loops) in the cart and you starting throwing every sign you knew at me - please, thank you, eat, more, and then kept repeating them until I acknowledged your request. You were not happy when I explained that we had to pay for the cereal before we could have a snack.

You also say some version of "I love you" when you give me a hug complete with some little love pats. Cutest thing ever, which saves your hide when you are destroying a room. You are very skilled in making large messes. And your level of reach has recently increased since you discovered that step stool in the bathroom can be carried from room to room opening up a whole new world for you. I caught you happily emptying the junk drawer the other day with your new friend the step stool. You were not pleased when I took it away and put it out of reach on top of the washing machine.

18 month stats:
weight: 20 lbs. 1 oz! FINALLY - 2 percentile
height: 31.25 inches - 35th percentile
head circumference: 17.875 inches - 19th percentile

You will probably still be hovering around the 20 lb mark at your 2-year check-up based on your current eating habits. You like most foods, but you are a grazer and don't want to eat with the rest of us at the table. And part of the problem is that you have completely broken your highchair. So this past weekend, I bought you a new booster seat without a tray but with a seat belt!  Hopefully this will help keep you contained and focused.

You are still a charmer and attract lots of attention when we are out and about. You love Andrew and Jonathan and want to do everything they do. But if they don't let you have your way, you've learned to scream until they cave. So far it works for you, but the screaming has to stop! Master manipulator before your second birthday. Be afraid. Be very afraid! But we love you anyway!

Andrew also discovered our camera had a timer and insisted on testing it. Other than the unflattering angle, it didn't turn out too bad!

Grandma, Grandpa and Uncle Matt came down that evening for a quick visit and Andrew wanted to test the timer out again. You can almost see every one's face as we hung out in the dining room testing out the new massage chair.

Mother's Day didn't happen quite like we planned. As we were getting ready for church, Jonathan had some tummy issues, and then when we got Hannah out of bed, her left eye was crusty and pink. So, no church for the three of us. Keith teaches Sunday School, so he and Andrew went while we three vegged out at home. Keith picked up some yummy Chipotle for lunch and then after a relaxing nap, Mom, Dad and Matt came over for dessert and popcorn. Hannah and Jonathan recovered quickly and just needed a day to rest after our busy weekend. All in all, not a bad day!

The boys got bored about .3 seconds after we got to the auction, so I bought the first toy up for bid - a build your own race track and had them put it together in round-bale feeder. Sort of like a cage for big kids.

They loved it, but then I had to buy some matchbox cars to drive on the track.

 

Hannah and Adam didn't know what to think about the auction and were much more interested in climbing on the Ranger with the speakers.

On May 12, the Heveners had their estate sale, which is a funny thing to say since they aren't retiring, just moving to Florida and downsizing, which resulted in a fun day for us! We were all very tired at the end of the day, but we came home with some fun bargains - a beautiful quilt, an iJoy massage chair (best money we ever spent!), Grandma and Grandpa's Foosball Table and some other odds and ends including some toys, Christmas decorations, and scrapbooking tools.

Thursday night before the auction, we had a family gathering at Lynn and Sandra's house. So fun for everyone to get together and eat and talk until very late that night. It was a great weekend and fun to see the Hevener family again!
