ER trip number 2

Hannah is very lucky to have two big brothers who worry about!

A healthy dinner of Fruit Loops and a donut make everything better!

Another trip with Hannah to the ER. (Why do these things only happen at dinnertime?) Hannah was running through the kitchen wearing slippery socks. She slipped and smacked her head on the corner of the island. She barely cried, and we didn't think it was anything bad until we saw blood and then the gash. And thanks to her un-natural fear of band-aids and because the cut was so deep, we wanted a professional to fix her up!

It took three of us to get the glue on - two to hold down her freakishly, strong body, and the doctor trying to get the glue in the right place. The first try didn't take, so we let her calm down and then we tried again. Let me tell you, it is super awesome to hold down your child and try to calm her while she screams for her daddy to save her. I was very glad to hand her to daddy when we got home!

Poor Jonathan thought the purple glue was a permanent addition to her face and informed me the next morning in private that he didn't like it. :)

Life with Boys

This is what a conversation sounds like when you have two boys: 
me: Andrew, what happened to your face? Are you OK?
Andrew: (looking sheepish) Jonathan kicked me in the eye.
me: WHAT?!
Andrew: Well, I told him to kick me when I stuck my face out from under the blanket, but he kicked me before I was ready.
Jonathan (yelling from the other room): It was an accident!
Just another day raising boys. *sigh*

When Keith got home, he had Jonathan demonstrate how much force he put into the kick. Thankful Andrew only has a small bruise based on the kicking power of his "little" brother.


A few days later....
"Everyone needs to be quiet or my ears are going to throw up," said the 5 year old (Jonathan) while trapped in the car with his siblings.

I know how you feel, buddy!

Friends at the Playground

Brenna and Hannah were too hot and tired to walk all the way home.

This boy was very hot and ready to go home! 

We love having Brenna and Sydney in Wichita! We spent a very hot day playing together. And to burn off some of their energy, I made them walk to the neighborhood playground. Unfortunately I didn't pack enough drinks and it was soon time to go home and cool down!

On a warm September Saturday, we met Sydney and Brenna at Botanica and spent a beautiful afternoon enjoying the children's garden! Hannah stayed home because we went during nap time, and we're not quite ready to give that up yet! The children ran and ran in the children's garden while Jill and I sat by the entrance and enjoyed adult conversation. A great day for all!

Labor Day weekend, Keith decided it was time to tackle our rotting deck. We had an usually rainy July and we found mushrooms growing in the railing of our deck and realized we couldn't wait much longer to fix it. So, on the hottest weekend we had in a while, Keith started demo-ing the deck. The three-day weekend flew by and he wasn't able to get it quite all done. But by the next weekend, it was finished! It looks amazing and Keith did a fantastic job. I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical about the plan, but it turned out great and we are all enjoying his hard work!
