Pumpkin Patch

We found a tiny spider crawling on a pumpkin.

"Look at this big, bumpy pumpkin!"

"No Jonafun, don't touch!"

We thought the pumpkin patch would provide us with lots of photo ops. We were wrong!

On Saturday, the weather cooperated and we headed to Prairie Pines Pumpkin Patch. The boys loved it and ran from one pile of pumpkins to another. Good photos were hard to catch, but we tried.

I'm not sure what's going on with the hands on the knees. I didn't tell them to sit like that. I think Jonathan was trying to be like his big brother!

A quick break

"Jonafun, don't pick da fwowers!"

This is a standard expression of irritation from Jonathan. My camera wasn't fast enough to capture the slamming of the hands into his thighs, which is what happened next with a loud sigh. I don't know what he was frustrated about either. Maybe because he can't run as fast as Andrew. Who knows? Until this boys gets some words, his problems are a mystery!

And no trip to the front yard is complete without rolling down our "hill."

Crazy Gourds and Andrewisms

I found these fun gourds at the Farmer's Market last week, and Andrew wanted me to take pictures of him holding them. And since he seldom wants his picture taken, I did not miss the opportunity to capture him and the gourds!

Today at Carelink, we were reminded to laugh at everyday experiences in mothering, especially when your first instinct isn't to laugh, which reminded me I haven't posted any Andrewisms lately.

Andrew: "I want a hangaber (hamburger)."

Andrew has been a little obsessed with conserving energy lately, thanks to some of the shows he watches on TV, but only when it serves his purpose. In the morning, Keith leaves the bathroom light on to help me wake up gradually. (Mornings aren't my thing!) Anyway, when Andrew wakes up, he comes in our room to get me and has been upset when he doesn't find Keith in the bathroom, which he expects because the light is on. So the other morning he says, "Why does daddy leave the light on? Doesn't he know it wastes energy?!" I woke that day laughing instead of groaning!

A couple months ago I was collecting toys and things around the house for a garage sale. As a side note, I found it was a very effective discipline tool to threaten toys be sold on the garage sale. One day, I had had enough of Jonathan's behavior/whining/what have you, and I said, "Jonathan I am ready to sell you." Of course, I wasn't serious. But Andrew didn't know that and asked, "Mommy, are you going to sell Jonafun at da gawage sale?!"

Jonathan insisted on wearing his hat backwards and would throw a major fit if we tried to fix it.

Positive peer pressure - Andrew doesn't usually wear a hat, but since his little brother was wearing a hat, he needed one too. Thank goodness we have no shortage of Red Sox hats around here!

Yesterday, we watched the sad end of the Red Sox season. As soon as Keith turned the game on, Jonathan started running around the house looking for something, and we didn't know what. He finally found his hat and wore it ALL day. He did take it off for his nap, but as soon as he woke up, he put his hat back on. And he would only wear it backwards and would throw a major fit if his hat was removed or changed!

For some reason, both of my boys are under the impression that the best way to read books is to empty the bookshelf. I love that they read books, now I just wish they would learn how to put all the books back where they found them!

The past few weeks have a brought a wonderful change to our house. Andrew and Jonathan are starting to play together - peacefully! It's not for long stretches of time, but any time without screaming and fighting is a wonderful length of time!
