Last night, we put the boys in the tub together for the first time. We were giving Jonathan a bath in the kitchen, but he has been splashing so much, that we had to graduate him to the big tub. And to save time, we put them in together. They both seemed to think it was super cool and Jonathan giggled when his big brother squirted and splashed him with the toys. And Andrew thought it was great that he could squirt his brother and not get in trouble. It's so fun to watch them start to "play" together. I hope that we can continue to foster this love and friendship!
Lately, Andrew has been communicating for Jonathan. I was waiting for this day to arrive, and it is quite humorous to hear what Andrew thinks Jonathan wants/needs/feels! For example, today we had a thunderstorm and Andrew was quick to inform me that the thunder scared Jonathan. I said, "Oh, and does it scare Andrew?" Yes came the quiet reply, which I didn't think he'd admit. Sometimes things only affect Jonathan.
Andrew can also determine the cause of Jonathan's fussiness. Usually it's because the batteries are dead in a noisy toy. And Andrew always tells us when Jonathan is crying, even when we are holding him and can clearly hear that he isn't happy! At least he loves him and acknowledges his existence and worries about him. It's so sweet to watch him take to his role of big brother and protector. We had an exterminator out last week to spray for spiders and other creepy crawlies. When the bug guy came in to spray inside, Andrew followed him around and asked him repeatedly what he was doing. He seemed fine with it all until they got to Jonathan's room. Then he said, "Don't spway my Jonafun's woom!" Keith assured him it was OK, but it warmed my heart to hear how protective he was!
And of course Jonathan is in love with Andrew. He watches him all day long, and we know that he is waiting impatiently until he can do all the things his big brother does. Sometimes he seems to get frustrated, at 4 months, that he can't keep up with his brother. Oh, they grow up so fast!
