Jonathan's First Haircut

Before:

Getting set up

During - looks a little like an Amish bowl cut.

This hair just wants to curl.

Almost finished...

All Done!
"Stop taking my picture! Just let me watch Curious George!"

Once we got home, he refused to look at me and smile to show of his new 'do.

At the ripe old age of 21 months, Jonathan has received his first official haircut. (We trimmed his rat tail a couple months ago, but that doesn't really count.) He was such a big boy. He sat on his little rocket, ate his sucker and watched Curious George. He barely flinched when she sprayed his hair with water and only cried for a second when the clippers came out. So brave! Now he looks like such a big boy!

Another haircut

Keith gave Andrew another haircut this weekend. He was way past due and starting to looking like a woolly mammoth! But now I want the hair back on his head because he looks sooooo old with his short hair!

These boys love their daddy!
We joke that they are like white on rice to him all weekend. Mommy equals chopped liver when daddy is around. That's OK. Their stuck with me all week, and I get a few things done on the weekend while they cling to their daddy.

Story time before bed with Jonathan hamming it up for the camera.

Haircut Time!

before

during

after

Is it just me or did he age a few years in a matter of minutes?!

Are those little curls I see on the back of Jonathan's head? Time will tell...

Last night we decided it was time to give Andrew a summer cut. He was starting to look like a woolly mammoth. And since the weather was so nice, we put him on the back porch and Keith set to work. Keith did a great job and there were no tears and no Oops! For some reason, Andrew thought he needed to get naked during the process, which I think only made him itchier. But after a quick bath the itchies were gone, and we were left with a 4-year-old looking boy. How did that happen?!

Another haircut

Before:
After: And now he looks soooo old and grown-up. *sigh*

Jonathan didn't get his haircut, but this is what he looked like when we came home from the haircut place. Tired beyond belief because he doesn't nap during the day. *loud sigh*

Andrew got another haircut. His hair grows so fast and is so thick. And with the summer heat, he has been sweating like a banshee. So, we decided to get a very short cut this time and I'm happy to say that it was a quick and painless process. (I've posted previously about the haircut torture we like to subject our son to.) Anyway, the new secret is "The Curious George" movie and gum. He sat completely still chewing his gum and watching George, while clumps of hair fell all around him. No screaming. No crying. Ahh, we think we've found the secret to success, until we need to get it cut again...

Haircut or Torture?

The calm after the storm. Grandma and Grandpa are forgiven especially since they gave him a new book with a dry erase pen, which he now calls the "Haircut Book."

Andrew has never liked getting his haircut, but we've always been able to get some sort of haircut. Not true for this past weekend. For some reason, he totally freaked out at the hair place. I've never seen him so scared of a nice woman with scissors! After about a half an hour, we finally left the hair salon, without the scissors ever touching his head, and decided to try a new strategy. Andrew loves his Grandpa, so we thought, foolishly, that maybe he would let Grandpa cut his hair. No. No. He freaked out again and it took several of us to hold him down. But because he is as strong as an ox, he wiggled a lot and consequently has a few bald spots and a couple of spots that were never touched.

Last night when Keith was giving Andrew a bath, he thought he could sneak in a couple of trims while Andrew was playing. Andrew heard the tiny trimmer and asked, "Whas dat noise?" Keith showed him and called it a tickle tool. Andrew wasn't fooled. He told Keith, "Daddy, I take a baff. Turn dat off and pu it up dare (pointing to the back of the toilet)." Keith tried a couple more times, but was unsuccessful in fooling Andrew. I think our next option is shaving his head...

Here are a couple of videos Keith took of the "torture."

Poor Andrew. But you'll be happy to know that as soon as he was free from the kitchen/salon, he was happy and smiling and all was forgiven, especially after he got his promised popsicle and new book!

Another haircut

Andrew got another haircut on Monday, finally. He was starting to look like a shaggy dog! This one went slightly better than the last...He sat in the chair for most of it and then I ended up holding him and she cut around me.

1st Haircut!

Well, I broke down and got Andrew's hair cut today. He doesn't look like a baby anymore! And of course he couldn't get his hair cut the conventional way by sitting in the chair. No, not our Andrew. He had to have his hair dresser cut his hair while sitting on the floor next to the TV and Elmo. And then he had to run around the room and test out all the chairs while I tried to hold him down so that he had a semi-normal looking hair cut. Ahh, the joys of being almost 21 months old. The hair dresser did a great job and she was very flexible with our little wild child!
