Spoiled Kittens

The other night when I was getting Hannah ready for bed, Ruby thought it was a good idea to join her. So she climbed her way into the crib and settled in for the night.

Hannah wasn't sure what to think of her new roommate. And for the record, Ruby did not get to stay in Hannah's room for the night. These naughty kitties still get locked up every night so that we can get some rest!
Andrew and Ruby, Jonathan and Max - the boys were thrilled that they made a smooth transfer and the kittens took a little nap on their laps. This NEVER happens because the boys never hold still long enough for the kittens to get comfy.
Jonathan's turn to hold Ruby. She's the boys' favorite because her fur is softer and she is less aggressive than Max. They fight over this poor kitten all.the.time!
Andrew and Ruby
Jonathan was beyond thrilled when he accomplished this small feat!

I wanna be like Daddy!

Jonathan helping Daddy cut the grass.

Keith was laying on the floor the other night reading a magazine.  Hannah wanted to join him and chose the Sunday Comics to read.

In case it isn't obvious, she thought she was pretty special reading with Daddy. My favorite part is her little foot kicked up!

Another Hot Day...

Once again, we are setting record-breaking temperatures. As of July 27, we had 32 days of over 100 degrees. The heat is extra painful when you have boys who have energy to burn. So, we decided to sweat out our energy this way...

They loved the idea of the water slide, but had a little trouble sliding all the way to the pool of water at the end.

When it was time to come in, they were a grassy, muddy mess, so I threw them in our big tub and they "swam" for about an hour, in air conditioning!

I bought this water slide early in the summer, but forgot about it. The boys found it in the garage and begged to set it up. I almost suffered a heat stroke getting it set up, but finally succeeded and then retreated to the shade. The humidity was extra high this day and so I didn't let the boys stay out too long. They loved it, and I'm sure it will get used again before the summer is over!

Sprinklers!

What do you do when it is over 100 degrees every.single.day? Play in the sprinklers, of course, in the shade, in your clothes. Who needs swim clothes anyway? Not us!

The boys were pretending to be fireman and putting out some sort of fire that only burns on concrete. I suggested the fire was the brown grass, but they weren't buying it.

It's a hard life...for kittens

Andrew and Max
Hannah gently petting Ruby. (Please excuse Hannah's self-drawn tattoos. Her brothers were "watching" her for me.)

They sleep curled up together all the time.

And they have discovered the dishwasher as a possible food source. I didn't open it all the way to try and discourage them from climbing in, but no such luck.

Kittens!

Ruby and Max
The boys were over joyed at the addition to our family.
Hannah was excited too and kept shrieking excitedly, which made the kittens want to hide!
So very playful and cute!

Max - his eyes aren't really blue, more hazel

Quickly settling into their new home
Two weeks ago, as Keith was recovering from Hand, Foot and Mouth, we decided to look into adopting a kitten. We checked out the Humane Society's website for info and it was a little expensive and they didn't have any tiny kittens available. So, we checked Craig's List. Keith immediately found these little darlings advertised with a prominent picture of one of their siblings, who looked like a baby Oliver. The family was giving the kittens away, so we went to take a look. They only had these two left when we got there and they were so cute and little. Keith had been trying to convince me all afternoon that two kittens would do better than just one and that they would be happier. I was pretty sure we only needed one, but the family told us that these two were always playing together. They sort of had the one spoken for, but when they heard we were interested in both, they let us take them.

We were completely unprepared and had to make a quick Walmart run to get some kitten chow and a litter box. When we got home, we realized they were covered in fleas and needed a bath. They had been raised outside and were dirty little things. We kept them locked up in our bathroom for a few days until the fleas were gone and they got used to us.

We also had to come up with some names. Andrew wanted to name them Flower and Cracker. I vetoed those names, and after some negotiating, we came up with Max and Ruby and everyone was happy.

So now we have 5 small creatures to care for. As if 3 children, age 7 and under wasn't enough already...

Brush Your Teeth!

Jonathan had his very first dentist appointment and he did GREAT! He sat still and the best news of all - NO cavities! Here's my brave little man with his shades they gave him while he waited for Dr. Jon to come and count his teeth. The picture quality is poor because I took it with my phone. Bad mommy, forgot to take the real camera along.

Andrew also had his teeth cleaned, and he didn't have any cavities either! It was a great day at the dentist office. And even better is that the boys like to go to the dentist and Dr. Jon and his staff are awesome!
